Online Challans: Jalandhar Becomes Second Punjab City to Launch Smart Traffic System

DGP Punjab, Gaurav Yadav on Monday (today) inaugurated the first phase of ITMS in Jalandhar to facilitate online Challan.

The Directorate General of Police (DGP) of Punjab, Gaurav Yadav on Monday (today) inaugurated the first phase of ITMS in Jalandhar to facilitate online Challan. With this, Jalandhar has become the second city of Punjab to have such as the first one is Mohali.

ITMS notably refers to the Intelligent Traffic Management System. Such an introduction. The system has been developed at the cost of INR 42 crore and will be managed from the IntegratedC Command and Control Center (ICCC). This is located at Police Lines, Jalandhar.

Reportedly, this development is marked at Phase 1 and includes 142 high technology cameras at the 13 key locations across the city. In the city, ANPR Cameras, Red Light Violation Detectors, Speed Cameras, and Public Display Screens are installed.

ANPR Cameras are automatic number plate recognition cameras. Significantly, there are over 1000 cameras. Also, there are public announcement systems and emergency call boxes installed.

The technology installed also features automated e-challan systems that are connected with the national vehicle databases (VAHAN and SARATHI). This has been done to issue a penalty in case traffic violations are committed. The violations include overspeeding, red-light jumping, wrong-side driving etc.

The inauguration event was attended by the several officials including Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur, DC Jalandhar Himanshu Aggarwal and Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Rishi.

While at the event, DGP Yadav spoke about Punjab’s security efforts and highlighted the Police officials commitment towards safeguarding the public. He added that in September 2024, police stopped over 26 terror attempts.
