Preliminary Investigation indicates that the IPS officer shot himself to death.

Y Puran Kumar, a Haryana cadre IPS officer from the 2001 batch, was found dead at his home in Sector 11, Chandigarh. Preliminary Investigation indicates that the IPS officer shot himself to death.

An investigation into the incident has been started by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Chandigarh. IAS official P Amneet Kumar, Puran Kumar’s wife, is presently traveling to Japan with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini.

At PTC Sunaria, Y Puran Kumar was the Inspector General of Police. Rohtak was his prior appointment as IG.

There has been controversy about Y Puran Kumar for a long time. He had consistently opposed former Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad, previous DGP Manoj Yadav, and current Haryana Director General of Police Shatrughan Kapoor, according to a story reported by Jagran Media.

Y Puran Kumar also complained to the Election Commission about then-Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal during the 2024 Lok Sabha Election. He claimed that IAS Anurag Agarwal was targeting officials on the basis of their caste. Officers from the higher castes were not being replaced; only those from the Scheduled Castes were.

Moreover, Y Puran Kumar charged that Rajiv Arora, the Home Secretary at the time, had submitted an investigation report in 2022 that was biased in favor of former DGP Manoj Yadav. The Punjab and Haryana High Court heard the case as well.

Additionally, Y Puran Kumar revealed that nine IPS officials had taken over two government buildings. As a result, the officers were fined and forced to leave one of the buildings.
