In a major development, Punjab Police on Sunday apprehended two suspects who are allegedly involved in a planned assassination of rival gang members in the state, coordinated by their foreign handlers.
The two accused persons, Lovedeep Singh also known as Love, and Tek Chand also known as Tinku, have been linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), according to Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav.
“The attack was part of a larger conspiracy to create terror and unrest in the state,” Gaurav Yadav, DGP Punjab stated.
According to the Punjab DGP, the Gurdaspur Police have had a “significant breakthrough”, having arrested two accused in connection with the attack; Lovedeep Singh @ Love and Tek Chand @ Tinku that are being handled by foreign-based radicalised gangsters Gurdev Jassal and Gurlal @ Gullu, linked to the terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).
“Initial investigation shows that the pair has been assigned by their overseas controllers… to execute targeted assassinations of opposing gang members in #Punjab as part of a broader scheme to instigate fear and disorder in the region,” Yadav stated in a message on X.
The authorities have also seized .32 caliber handguns with loaded ammunition from the suspects.
Additional inquiries are being conducted to track their network and identify both forward and backward connections.
