Elante Mall Faces Demolition, Sealing Over Unauthorized Structural Changes

Officials said that the SDM had issued a specific show-cause notice to the mall on September 3 based on an inspection conducted on August 8.

The Chandigarh administration on Sunday conducted a demolition operation and sealed unlawful constructions within Nexus Elante Mall. The move is the first of its kind against one of the biggest commercial hubs in the tricity.

The action was taken after the mall authorities reportedly violated the ultimatum of two months to remove unauthorized structural changes undertaken without obtaining necessary approval to building plans.

Officials said that the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) had issued a specific show-cause notice to the mall on September 3 based on an inspection conducted on August 8.

Officials also noted that the show-cause notice inspected major structural changes that included unauthorized commercial activities conducted without the permission of the UT chief administrator.

The notice stated: “The site inspection conducted on August 8 found that you have modified the building without obtaining prior permission from the chief administrator. Ten violations were found.”

The notice directed the allottee, lessee, and occupier to fix the disabling violations within two months and warned they would be charged ₹8 per square foot per day for the area that was in violation.
