At least nine individuals lost their lives and more than 30 were injured when a large cache of recovered explosives stored at the Nowgam police station in Jammu and Kashmir exploded on Friday night.
The majority of those who lost their lives were law enforcement officers and members of the forensic team examining the explosives. Two officials from the Srinagar administration also died.

The wounded individuals have been taken to the Indian Army’s 92 Base Hospital and SKIMS. Senior police officials have arrived in Nowgam and the area has been secured.
It was the Nowgam police station that had previously discovered the incident where Jaish-e-Mohammed posters were found in various locations throughout the area.
These posters aided in uncovering a terror cell comprised of radicalized, highly educated individuals. The inquiry resulted in a significant explosives confiscation and the capture of multiple “terror doctors.”
In October, Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather, one of the detained individuals, was recorded placing posters that alerted about significant assaults on security personnel and “outsiders” in Kashmir. His capture on October 27 uncovered a perilous network that was subsequently connected to the Delhi explosion that claimed 13 lives earlier this week.
