Tourist Movement to Rohtang Pass Suspended After Fresh Snowfall

With Rohtang Pass closed, Solang Nala emerged as the main destination for tourists seeking snow activities.

Tourist movement towards Rohtang Pass has been temporarily suspended following fresh snowfall in Lahaul-Spiti and the Manali region. Authorities imposed the restriction as a precautionary measure, citing slippery and unsafe road conditions.

Officials said snow accumulation on the Rohtang route increased the risk of accidents, prompting them to stop tourists from proceeding beyond designated points.

Light snowfall also affected the road leading to the Atal Tunnel, causing driving difficulties in several stretches. Tourist vehicles were initially stopped from heading towards the tunnel but limited movement was later allowed after road conditions improved.

With Rohtang Pass closed, Solang Nala emerged as the main destination for tourists seeking snow activities. The area witnessed heavy footfall, leading to traffic congestion between Manali, Solang Nala and Nehru Kund, with long vehicle queues reported.

Authorities allowed vehicle movement only up to Solang Nala during the morning hours. Traffic towards the Atal Tunnel and Sissu was restored later in the day after visibility and road conditions improved, though intermittent traffic jams persisted due to vehicles stopping near Solang Nala.

Officials said the situation is under close watch and assured that Rohtang Pass would be reopened once weather and road conditions stabilise. Tourists have been advised to follow traffic rules and check weather updates before travelling.
