Senior BJP Leader Avinash Rai Khanna has condemned the Himachal Pradesh administration for its choice to raise the fee for vehicles entering the state starting April 1, calling the action “a direct betrayal of the populace.”
Speaking to the media, Khanna announced that the Congress-led administration has opted to increase the entry fee for private vehicles, including cars, jeeps, and vans from outside the state from Rs 70 to Rs 170.
He referred to the hike as an “unwarranted financial strain” on the average person and on those whose income relies on transportation.
BJP Leader Khanna alleged that such an hike reflects “public exploitation” by the authorities. He claims that the an increased levy would not only affect tourists but also transporters, small traders, and service providers who frequently travel to Himachal for business purposes.
He added that such measures will impact the tourism and inter-state travel which will put additional stress on families who are already gripped under the situations of inflation.
The former MP said Himachal is home to numerous revered pilgrimage destinations that attract devotees from across the country. Imposing a higher entry tax could discourage religious tourism.
