The whole shooting took place at around 1:13 am on Thursday, was recorded on CCTV camera

The fear rose after two unidentified gunmen opened fire on the house of senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Daljit Raju and fled.
The shooting incident took place on Wednesday night in Phagwara’s Darvesh Pind where two masked men were seen onboard a motorbike.
The whole shooting, which took place at around 1:13 am on Thursday, was filmed on the CCTV cameras located outside the residence.
As per the police, the aggressors first came on a two-wheeler before proceeding to park it outside the house and then take a stroll towards the property and commence code firing rounds before they left the scene.
Madhavi Sharma, who is the SP Phagwara, mentioned that the attackers shot nearly 23 rounds, no matter if it increases further as the teams are re-checking the area for any additional proof. The forensic group thoroughly inspected the area where they found and collected several empty cartridges that were lost.
According to the residents, the unexpected noise of the gunfire made them awake and they had to go out of their houses due to fear. The spontaneous and heavy firing that was not even briefed beforehand caused a lot of anxiety all over the village, as the locals did call the police just after the assault.
The swift action police team arrived at the scene, blocked the area, starting to check the very near houses CCTV footage in order to catch the shooters.
As per SP Sharma, nothing has been received so far by the AAP leader in the form of random calls or threatening messages. The only thing obtained, a handwritten letter of a demand for 5 crores, was found in the residence of Raju, which led detectives to suspect some criminal gang’s involvement in the case.
The onus was on the police to look at this and think about other possibilities too, such as, he was being watched by the shooters or, perhaps the assault had been a part of a bigger extortion plot.
Sharma further stated, “We have been assigned a detailed probe into this case. Once we get the specific proofs, the info will be made available to the press”.
Daljit Raju, speaking off-camera, labeled the incident as an assault on the democratic system and called for the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of the firing.
In addition, he voiced his apprehensions regarding the security of his family and villagers who were in a state of fear due to the attack.
The police department’s representatives stated that they had made multiple previous arrests in connection with murder and extortion crimes in the area, adding that designated teams are currently pursuing the possibility of connections to any identified gang members involved in the recent event.
In the meantime, the assault has made the inhabitants of Darvesh Pind anxious, with many requesting a more robust police presence to patrol the area.
The inquiry is still in progress, and law enforcement officials have assured that they will provide further information as they go through the analysis of the forensic reports and the surveillance footage.
