The Farmers on Thursday staged a protest in Dasuya against the non-operation of sugar mills. The farmers are demanding the operations of mills so the sale of sugarcane can be initiated.
As per the reports, farmers claim that the sugarcane crop is ready to be harvested in their lands. However, the non-operation of sugar mills have escalated the tensions and left the farmers in distress.
They added that such has halted the sale of sugarcane, pushing farmers into economic uncertainty at the time of harvest season.
Farmers are gathered in Dasuya, raising slogans and demanding the government to take immediate action to reopen the mills. Protesters as well have warned that the situation could intensify if their concerns are not addressed without further delay.
Addressing the concerns of farmers, Doaba Kisan Welfare Committee, Jalandhar have announced that the protest will continue the way it is going. Also, it stated that the meeting between the government and Mill owners regarding the matter will take place this evening in Chandigarh.

Farmers hope that the meeting will lead to a swift decision to begin the operations and prevent any further delay.
