Panic gripped across Amritsar on Friday morning after several private schools received bomb threat emails.
Principals and other representatives of numerous prominent independent institutions received emails with bomb threats for their respective campuses. Schools efficiently evacuated students and made arrangements to ensure parents were alerted via telephone and email regarding the need to retrieve their children from their respective institutions.
“As confirmed by Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, many schools in both the city and surrounding towns have received suspicious emails.” “In response to these reports, a Gazetted Officer will be assigned to each of these sites and anti-sabotage teams are performing thorough examinations of all facilities occupied by students.”
The Cyber Police Station has also begun tracing the source of the emails.
A senior administrator of a well-known private school told The Tribune that their school received the threat on its official email ID, which was flagged by the institution’s director. “As soon as we saw the email, our first priority was student safety. We informed parents that the school would remain closed for the day. Even if it turns out to be a hoax, we can’t take any risks after the recent Delhi blast,” the principal said.
A second significant education authority contacted law enforcement; therefore the bomb squad conducted a thorough search of the entire facility. District Commissioner Dalwinder Singh held an emergency meeting regarding the situation.
