During a wedding reception in Moga on Monday, the DJ and his music were chosen as the reason for some youths at the reception becoming violent. As a result, one of the grooms’ brothers was shot and seriously injured.
The shooting occurred at a pre-wedding event where people were dancing and DJs were playing music. Officers indicated that while some guests were intoxicated, others were not, and alcohol played a role in the chaos that ensued after the fight began between two men over which songs they wanted the DJ to play for everyone.
Preliminary police reports indicate that the fight began when Akashdeep Singh (26 years old) went up to the DJ, asked him to play one of his favourite songs, and, as a result, got into an argument with another person (identified as Mani); he is also known as William. As a result of the shots being fired, panic broke out at the venue and caused guests to run in all directions. Akashdeep was taken to Moga Civil Hospital, where he received initial treatment, and then was referred to Faridkot Medical College and Hospital for additional treatment, as he sustained serious injuries.
Police have initiated an investigation following a statement from Janak Raj (the Kot-Ishe-Khan police station’s officer in charge), who reported that an injured person provided a statement to police, as well as other witnesses, and that police will be charging the suspects.
Police personnel have made a trip to Faridkot (hospital) and taken additional statements from Akashdeep and his relatives. By the time of this report no individuals had been arrested; however, police stated that search operations are continuing for the purpose of locating and arresting the aforementioned individuals.
