According to police, a woman who is a manager at a private IT firm was reportedly gang-raped in a car travelling through Udaipur, Rajasthan after accepting a ride home from a New Year’s party.
The crime is said to have taken place shortly after the woman attended a New Year’s party at a private hotel on December 20, which took place from 9 PM until 1:30 AM.
After most guests departed, the woman reportedly received a ride home from the company’s CEO, a high-ranking female executive, and the executive’s spouse.
Police report that the woman entered the executive’s vehicle, where her spouse and the CEO were already inside. While driving, they purchased smoking supplies and handed them to her. She reportedly fainted after taking it.
Upon regaining some consciousness, she stated that the CEO had been molesting her, and subsequently asserted that all three defendants had sexually attacked her.
She was taken home at about 5 am. When she woke up completely, she realized she had injuries near her genital area and that some of her belongings were missing from her possession.
The woman went to the police the day after she woke up and made a complaint. After an investigation by police authorities, police arrested three individuals on charges including Jayesh (the CEO and head of the company), Gaurav (co-defendant), and Shilpa (Gaurav’s wife).
Mr. Yogesh Goyal, superintendent of police in Udaipur, stated that based on the results of the medical exam, there were indications of an injury that led police to believe that it is a case of prima facie evidence of a gang rape.
