Accused Held After Shawl Seller Attacked in Uttarakhand

Police registered a case after a Kashmiri shawl seller alleged assault and forced chanting in Uttarakhand, suspects detained.

Police reported on Friday that an unknown group allegedly attacked a Kashmiri shawl seller and compelled him to recite religious slogans.

A case has been filed and a few suspects related to the issue have been apprehended, they stated. A supposed video of the event that took place on December 22 also appeared on social media, leading police to respond to the situation, they stated.

Manikant Mishra, Udham Singh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police has stated that the police acted immediately once the video went viral. They were able to remove the video from social media to prevent any type of social unrest.

Bilal Ahmed, a married man aged 30 years who sells shawls, visited the police to lodge a complaint that six people he did not know attacked him while he was in Manpur in front of Ujala Hospital. They forced the victim to say “Allah is Great” when they stopped him, and he said no they used abusive language and assaulted him.

According to the report that was presented to the police, the attackers attempted to steal his jackets, and money and also threatened him if he continued to return to that area where he sells shawls.

He came from Kupwara and has lived in the Ramnagar area for the last nine years, according to the officer.

The police leader said that any individual or group attempting to create an atmosphere of fear and unrest in society will not be allowed to do so. He also requested that members of the public avoid sharing provocative content on social media sites.
