An incident occurred early Saturday at a Moga District Punjab, Bhinder Kalan village, where a shooting took place resulting in the death of Umarsir Singh, a young man employed by Nestle India Ltd. counterpart in Moga and residing in Bhinder Kalan.
According to sources, immediately after leaving his home and heading to work, Umarsir Singh encountered a group of assailants with weapons, resulting in an indiscriminate barrage of gunfire. As many as 15-20 bullets hit Umarsir Singh resulting in his death before he was able to receive medical attention. Following the shooting, the assailants fled the scene.
Umarsir Singh’s family claims that he was specifically targeted due to long-standing disputes between the families regarding the Block Samiti election. His brother, Ajmer Singh, believes that Umarsir Singh’s murder was premeditated by other individuals, including the sarpanch (head of village council), due to political differences held by them.
Following the incident, senior law enforcement officers and crime scene forensic personnel established a crime scene and began collecting evidence. The post-mortem of Umarsir Singh is pending, and law enforcement has commenced an investigation into the incident in accordance with applicable laws.
The investigations are underway. Police are checking local surveillance footage from the nearby villages.
