The victim said she was sent to Oman in September on the promise of a job, but after reaching there, she realised she had been sold for 1,200 Omani riyals.

Five women from Punjab who were trapped in Oman have been safely brought back to India due to the efforts of Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal. One of the victims, a resident of Jalandhar, reached Nirmal Kutia in Sultanpur Lodhi and shared her ordeal with the media.
The woman said her family approached Sant Seechewal on December 16, 2025, after which he immediately took up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). She was repatriated within 14 days and returned to India on December 30 along with four other women. Sant Seechewal had earlier written to the MEA seeking the safe return of nearly 70 Indian women reportedly trapped in Oman.
The victim said she was sent to Oman in September on the promise of a job, but after reaching there, she realised she had been sold for 1,200 Omani riyals. She alleged that her aunt abandoned her in Oman and returned to India. She was pressured to engage in immoral activities and was beaten and abused when she refused.
She further claimed that she was told she could return to India only after paying Rs 2 lakh or arranging for two other girls from India to replace her. She worked as a domestic help for nearly two months before managing to escape and reach a safe place, where she found around 70 other Indian women facing similar exploitation.
According to the victim, young women are lured to Oman on the pretext of domestic work and later exploited. Those who resist are allegedly denied food, assaulted, and threatened. She warned young women and their families to be cautious of false overseas job offers, stating that Oman is currently unsafe for women under such circumstances.
Speaking to the media, Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal said the exploitation of Indian women in some Arab countries is a serious concern. He added that strict action is needed against human trafficking networks to prevent more women from falling prey to such crimes.
