Police later searched his apartment, where Godishala’s body was found on January 3. She had suffered multiple stab wounds.

A 26-year-old Indian citizen, Arjun Sharma, has been arrested in Tamil Nadu for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, Nikita Godishala, in Maryland, United States. The arrest came after an international manhunt involving Interpol and coordination between US and Indian agencies.
According to police, Sharma filed a missing complaint on January 2, claiming that his 27-year-old girlfriend, Nikita Godishala, a resident of Ellicott City, had been missing since New Year’s Eve. He told authorities that he last saw her at his apartment on Twin Rivers Road in Columbia, Maryland.
However, Sharma soon came under suspicion after it was found that he left the United States for India on the same day he filed the complaint. Police later searched his apartment, where Godishala’s body was found on January 3. She had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Following the recovery of the body, an arrest warrant was issued against Sharma. US federal agencies then worked with Indian authorities to track him down. He was arrested in Tamil Nadu after Interpol shared information with local police. Formal extradition proceedings are expected to begin soon.
Godishala was working as a Data and Strategy Analyst at Vheda Health since February 2025 and had recently received the company’s “All-In Award,” sources said.
Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in the US said it is in touch with Godishala’s family and is providing consular assistance. The Embassy also said it is coordinating with local authorities and clarified that a widely circulated image on social media related to the case does not show the accused.
