Amid the deteriorating situation, several Indian migrant workers employed in Nepal have started returning to India as a precaution.

The District Administration Office (DAO) of Parsa in Nepal has extended the curfew in Birgunj city following ongoing communal tensions triggered by a TikTok video containing religious content.
The curfew was first imposed on Monday afternoon after protests erupted over the video. What began as demonstrations soon turned violent, forcing authorities to restrict movement in Birgunj, a city located close to India’s Raxaul district in Bihar.
The situation has also led to heightened security along the India–Nepal border. Indian security forces have suspended civilian movement across the border, allowing only emergency services. Security has been tightened at key crossing points, including the Maitri Bridge, where all individuals are being thoroughly checked. A dog squad has also been deployed to strengthen vigilance.
Amid the deteriorating situation, several Indian migrant workers employed in Nepal have started returning to India as a precaution.
The tensions began after two Muslim men, identified as Haider Ansari and Amanat Ansari from Kamala Municipality in Nepal’s Dhanusha district, allegedly shared a video on social media that contained remarks considered offensive by some religious groups. The video sparked unrest in both Dhanusha and Parsa districts.
Local residents reportedly detained the two men and handed them over to the police, citing concerns over communal harmony. Shortly after, a mosque in the Sakhuwa Maran area of Kamala was vandalised, further escalating tensions and leading to protests.
During the unrest, Hindu groups alleged that the video included derogatory remarks about their deities, deepening the communal divide.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as security remains on high alert in the region.
