Lohri Tragedy in Amritsar: Elderly Man, Disabled Daughter burnt alive House Fire

According to officials, at least five family members were present inside the house when the fire started. With the help of neighbours, three people were safely rescued.

Lohri celebrations turned tragic in Amritsar after an elderly man and his differently-abled daughter were burnt to death in a devastating house fire late at night.

The deceased have been identified as Khajan Singh (86) and his 40-year-old daughter, Navdeep Kaur. The fire reportedly broke out after sparks from a Lohri bonfire ignited nearby flammable material.

According to officials, at least five family members were present inside the house when the fire started. With the help of neighbours, three people were safely rescued. However, Khajan Singh and his daughter were unable to escape due to their physical conditions and were trapped inside the burning house.

Fire officials said 7–8 fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the spot, but the blaze spread rapidly as the house reportedly contained a large quantity of flammable items, including Rumala sahib. Narrow lanes in the area further delayed the fire-fighting operation, and it took nearly five hours to bring the fire under control.

SHO Balwinder Singh of B-Division police station said a detailed investigation has been launched to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
