PM Modi thanked Maharashtra voters as BJP registered a historic first-ever win in the BMC elections, reshaping Mumbai’s political landscape.
PM Modi, today, expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Maharashtra for supporting the BJP after the party won the election to the richest municipal corporation, BMC, for the first time.
“Thank you Maharashtra,” PM Modi said in his post on X, along with the celebrations taking place at the BJP office in Mumbai.
“The vibrant citizens of the state sanction the NDA’s pro-people enduring governance. The results of the elections in different municipal corporations show that NDA’s ties with the people of Maharashtra have grown even stronger,” he added.
The Prime Minister expressed his feelings, saying, “Our record and perspective on development have been able to connect well. I bow to the people of different regions in Maharashtra. This is a vote to give momentum to the progress and celebrate the great culture the state is known for”.
As per the analysis, 210 of the 227 seats are available in Mumbai, and the latest news is that the BJP is leading in 90 seats, while the Shiv Sena of Eknath Shinde in 28 electoral wards. The NCP, led by Ajit Pawar, which contested separately, is currently in the lead in only three wards.
The Opposition side is led, by Shiv Sena (UBT) and its ally, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, taking the lead in 57 and nine wards, respectively. The Congress, which allied with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi to contest, is currently up in 15 while others lead in eight.
The statistics suggest that the grip of Shiv Sena (UBT) on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is now over.
The Bharatiya Janata Party fought for 137 seats, the Shiv Sena for 90, and the Ajit Pawar NCP faction brought in independent députees to distinct 94 cliques. The Shiv Sena (UBT) came up with 163 candidates, the MNS 52, the Congress 143, and the VBA (Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi) 46.
What Changed?
The conclusion of the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections was that the Pawar brand, which was once believed to be the key to controlling these cities, no longer can stand alone and be sure to win. The two factions of the NCP which were led by the Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar respectively, prevented the tactical coordination. However, the vote did not appear with the required ABS leadership.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has the BJP having the upper hand despite the other parties. The party has grabbed many of the wards either by winning or by leading significantly keeping itself in a strong position to lead the civic body.
The NCP factions, even if they were in a fight against ideological opposition, were not able to transform their usual areas of strength into a city-wide power.
Uddhav Thackeray is in a bit of a better position now because while Eknath Shinde made some inroads into Mumbai, he was not able to even slightly affect Thackerays’ position as the face of the Marathi Manoos in the financial and entertainment capital.
The Marathi Manoos in Sena bases have demonstrated their confidence in Uddhav Thackeray. Therefore, Shiv Sena (UBT) has been able to exhibit a good performance albeit the loss of BMC control is a huge loss to the party, as the municipal body has always been the main power for them since their very beginning. The Sena always insisted that its control of the BMC was the main aspect of the agreement with its allies.
Devendra Fadnavis in Form
The BJP’s astounding success in the Maharashtra municipal elections is attributed to Fadnavis, who took the helm of the party. Mahayuti, with his guidance, radically altered the political equation in the state. Meanwhile, the BJP once again showed that they have broader public backing through their ongoing winning streak from assembly to municipal elections by adding the municipal elections to their historic success.
Today’s victory is proof of Fadnavis’ accomplishments.
