Victim Shubham attempted to catch a kite that was placed near the farmland. He was unaware that he was entering a flooded trench and met a painful fate.

A nine year old child died in a heartbreaking event after falling into a 10-foot deep trench excavated by a farmer in the Suranussi area of Jalandhar on the outskirts of the city.
Victim Shubham attempted to catch a kite that was placed near the farmland. He was unaware that he was entering a flooded trench and met a painful fate.
As it was Basant Panchmi on January 23 and the rain continued until the afternoon, flying kites during the day was not possible. As the sun began to dip, children started to emerge gathering kites from various places. Shubham also went out with his friends for the same reason.
When the event took place, Shubham’s friends found out what transpired. However, they were said to be too frightened to inform anyone at home and stayed silent about his location until the police found his body this morning and retrieved it. Shubham’s relatives continued searching for him late yesterday evening before eventually notifying the police.
This morning, a team from the Division No. 1 police station located him from the trench. The trench was said to have been excavated by a farmer to stop his crops from becoming waterlogged. He channeled all rainwater from his fields into this trench by creating pathways for it.
Vikas Kumar, Shubham’s uncle, called for action against the farmer for supposed negligence and failure to place warning signs near the trench for pedestrians.
SHO Rakesh Kumar stated that a post-mortem examination of the child’s body had been performed. He stated that no FIR had been filed and that the police had started investigations regarding the incident.
