Union leaders have claimed that several of the workers who were detained in the protest staged by workers in November are still in jail, have not been released.

Amid Bharat Bandh call by farmers, trade, and bank unions against the India-US trade deal, the contract workers of Punjab Roadways and PRTC have continued the “Chakka Jam” for second consecutive day. This has caused severe inconvenience to the public.
The transportation services are disrupted throughout the state as the workers have launched the strike on Wednesday for an indefinite period. This is still continued, leaving the commuters stranded on today (Thursday) as well.
The state government had invited the union delegation for talks on Wednesday, however, the marathon meeting, which continued late into the evening, remained inconclusive.
The State Vice-President of the PRTC Contract Employees Union, Harkesh Vicky mentioned that around 8000 workers from 27 depots of the state have participated in the strike.
Laying focus on the matter, Vice-President Vicky added that the Union Representatives held the talks with Transport Secretary in Chandigarh, demanded the release of colleagues who were booked in earlier protest of November-December. There has been laid serious charges on them, including attempt to murder.
Notably, Union leaders have claimed that several of the workers who were detained in the protest staged by workers in November are still in jail, have not been released. Adding to it, they highlight that more than 20 members were booked under non-bailable sections and 34 were terminated from the service.
Extending support with the transport unions, Swarn Singh Pandher who is Farmers Leader added that India is a democratic nation and in democracy, everyone has the right to express their resentment. And, the Bharat Bandh call is its part.
Adding his words, he claimed that the protest is against growing privatisation and the India-Us trade deal in detrimental to farmers.
