A 34-year-old man from Punjab’s Gurdaspur district died in the United States after a road accident that reportedly happened when he suffered a sudden seizure while driving for Uber. The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, also known as JP, a resident of village Gohat Pokhar in Gurdaspur.

According to family members, Gurpreet had moved to the United States about eight years ago in search of better job opportunities. Over the years, he worked hard and set up his own small business. Along with running his business, he also used his personal vehicle to drive for Uber to increase his income.

Relatives said the incident took place on February 7 when Gurpreet was taking passengers to their destination. During the drive, he reportedly suffered a seizure, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a road divider. The accident caused serious injuries. Family members said he suffered multiple wounds, including a major injury to his spine.

After the crash, he was taken to a hospital where doctors began treatment. His condition initially showed improvement, and the family was informed that he might be discharged within a day or two. However, during treatment, he suffered another medical attack in the hospital and died.

Gurpreet is survived by his wife and two young daughters, who were living with him in the US. His sister and other in-laws are also settled there. In Punjab, his parents and extended family members are in deep shock over his sudden death.

His brother-in-law, Sharanjit Singh, said Gurpreet was a hardworking and kind-hearted person who built his life through his own efforts. Family members said his death is a huge loss and has left everyone heartbroken.

The incident has created sadness in his native village and nearby areas, where he was known for his simple and humble nature.

The grieving family has appealed to both the Punjab government and the Central government to create more job opportunities within the state so that young people do not feel forced to go abroad for work. They also urged authorities to speak with the US government about measures to protect the future of Indians who have settled there after spending their life savings.
