Restaurant proprietors in Jalandhar are anxious due to the LPG cylinder shortage in the commercial sector stemming from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. According to reports, shop owners in the PPR Market, Jalandhar claim that cylinders are being sold for Rs 900 on the black market.

The restaurant proprietors state that despite the Centre enforcing the ESMA Act (ESMA permits the government to ban strikes in essential services that might disturb daily activities) nationwide, they are struggling to acquire cylinders.

Providing insight into the present circumstances, restaurant owner Danish stated that the sector is encountering major challenges in sourcing cylinders. He mentioned that prior to the Iran-Israel conflict, cylinders could be purchased for Rs 1600, but are currently being traded for Rs 2500 in the black market.

Danish indicates that the Rs 900 increase has been creating issues and urges the authorities to take action against cylinder blackmailing, allowing restaurant owners to function efficiently.

At the same time, another restaurant owner Tarun expresses similar feelings and raises worries about the increase in prices. He clarifies that the interruptions are occurring because the cylinder supply has been terminated. He goes on to explain that he has just one cylinder remaining, which makes it quite challenging to operate his business.

Tarun mentioned that other restaurant owners, like himself, are experiencing the same issue because of the cylinder shortage.
