Following the Punjab Assembly’s budget session, an argument broke out between Jalandhar North MLA Bawa Henry and Nakodar AAP MLA Inderjit Kaur Mann.
The situation ignited into combustion after Henry, speaking to media, made a statement in support of Congress leader Sukhpal Khaira.
Following it, AAP MLA from Nakodar Constituency, Inderjit Kaur Mann pushed Bawa Henry, said, “This is our camp, Go to your camp and talk.” To which, Bawa Henry replied, “Madam, don’t touch me.”
Later, AAP MLA Mann tried to calm the situation, saying Henry that “you are my brother, go to your camp and talk.” The clip for such after being viral on social media has become a heated topic.
Why is Sukhpal Khaira into Controversy?
The controversy started because of a social media remark by Sukhpal Singh Khaira about the Punjab government’s ₹1,000 monthly financial assistance scheme for women.
In a Facebook post, Khaira criticized the scheme and reportedly wrote that women celebrating the Rs 1,000 payment and dancing gidha over it “cannot be expected to give birth to brave sons.”
This statement was widely interpreted as insulting women, especially poor women who would benefit from the scheme.
What remark did CM Mann made that linked to Khaira Controversy?
The controversy around CM Bhagwant Mann following a speech he gave during an International Women’s Day event in Sunam, Punjab. In the speech, he narrated a story from his college days about a girl he liked.
While narrating, he said that during college he and his friends used to refer to a female student as “patola.” He also joked about her clothes. In the speech, he said they would jokingly call her “bharjaayi” among friends, even though she did not know about it.
The matter became controversial after Opposition leaders, especially from the Indian National Congress (INC), said these remarks as Objectifying women, were inappropriate for a Chief Minister speaking at a public event. They filed a complaint with the National Commission for Women demanding action and an apology.
