The family of 45 year old Sikh social media influencer, Nancy Grewal who was stabbed outside a home in LaSalle, Ontario is remembring her as a kind-hearted and dedicated woman. She was killed on March outside a house on Todd Lane where she worked as a personal support worker (PSW).
Her sister, Alishaa Grewal, in Mumbai, mentioned that they frequently communicated via video calls and had a strong connection.
“She felt more like a mother to me than a sibling,” Alishaa stated during an interview with CBC News.
The family stated that Grewal had earlier faced threats of death and assault online. She was recognized for her public criticism of Khalistan extremism on the internet. Fewer than seven days before her passing, Grewal mentioned to CBC that she occasionally felt scared following threats but aimed to stay resilient.
According to CBC, home security footage provided by a home owner named Nancy shows a hooded individual coming to her front deck, pouring liquid from a gas can, and then igniting it. The fire extended across the deck but soon diminished, partly because of the wet conditions and the surface paint. The homeowner stated that she had informed Windsor police about death threats.
CBC stated it made several attempts to validate reports of an arson attack and threats with the Windsor Police Service prior to Grewal’s death but received no reply. Windsor police subsequently directed all inquiries to LaSalle police and refrained from providing additional comments.
Grewal’s mother, Shinderpal Kaur, told the media in India that the assault was savage, stating her daughter was pursued and stabbed several times.
Grewal relocated to Canada in 2018 after being a professional singer in India. She eventually became a PSW and aspired to launch a healthcare business to assist and employ additional caregivers.
Her relatives are currently working to secure emergency visas for traveling to Canada.
