A bomb blast outside the Punjab unit office of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Chandigarh has triggered serious security concerns, with BJP national spokesperson RP Singh suggesting that Punjab BJP working president Ashwani Sharma may have been the intended target.
Reacting to the incident, RP Singh shared a post on the social media platform X, calling the development “shocking and deeply concerning.”
“A shocking and deeply concerning development, a bomb blast outside the BJP Punjab office in Chandigarh. What makes this even more serious is that Ashwani Sharma, state BJP Working President, had been present at the same office for the last two days and had just left for Delhi for a political programme,” Singh wrote.
He further pointed out that Sharma had received a security alert recently. “Notably, just 15 days ago, he was cautioned by the SSP of Pathankot to suspend his morning walks due to a specific threat perception. Whether there’s any link between that warning and today’s blast is a matter for investigation, but the coincidence can’t be ignored,” Singh added.
The BJP leader also raised concerns over security arrangements and intelligence coordination in Punjab. “This is not just about one leader or one party office. It raises serious questions about security, intelligence coordination, and the overall law and order situation in Punjab. Those responsible must be identified and brought to justice at the earliest. There can be zero tolerance for such acts of terror,” he said.
Following the blast, security agencies and police officials rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. The authorities are examining CCTV footage, collecting forensic evidence, and probing possible links with earlier threat inputs.
So far, no casualties have been reported, but the incident has heightened political and security tensions in the region. Officials stated that further details would emerge after the preliminary investigation report.
