Violent clash erupts at Model Town Sports Shop over Property Dispute

The incident, which reportedly stemmed from a long-standing property dispute, escalated into a physical conflict involving kicks, blows, and an eventual clash with responding police officers.

A group of people gathered outside a shop on a busy street, with vehicles parked nearby and a Burger Singh sign visible in the background.

A violent confrontation broke out between two groups at the ‘Sport Master’ shop in Model Town yesterday, turning the commercial area into a battlefield. The incident, which reportedly stemmed from a long-standing property dispute, escalated into a physical conflict involving kicks, blows, and an eventual clash with responding police officers.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of 10 to 15 young men stormed the shop and immediately began assaulting the occupants. The shop’s tenant, identified as Sukhdeep, stated that the attackers targeted his brothers and friends without provocation.

“I have been working at this location for two years and hold the power of attorney,” Sukhdeep told reporters. “Despite this, the other party entered the shop by force to seize the property. I even appealed for a sit-down meeting to resolve the matter peacefully, but they ignored my pleas and started the attack.”

Sukhdeep explained that the shop’s ownership is split between two individuals, Amrik Singh and Sanjay, which appears to be the root of the conflict.

Clash with Law Enforcement

Upon receiving distress calls from local residents, a police team led by Superintendent of Police (SP) Aakarshi Jain arrived at the scene to restore order. However, the tension did not subside.

A video of the incident has since surfaced on social media, showing a heated exchange between the youths and the police. In the footage, some individuals are seen clashing with officers. Allegations have also emerged from the crowd, with one man accusing a policeman of physical assault during the attempt to detain the suspects.

The SHO confirmed that several youths were detained at the scene. “We received reports of a targeted attack at the Sport Master shop. Our teams intervened immediately to prevent further injuries,” the officer stated.

SP Aakarshi Jain and her team have initiated a formal investigation into both the initial brawl and the subsequent defiance shown toward the police.

The victim, Sukhdeep, expressed grave concerns for his safety, stating that he now fears being attacked whenever he leaves his home for work. Local residents have also voiced their anxiety over such brazen violence occurring in a busy commercial hub.

The police are currently reviewing the viral video and CCTV footage from the shop to identify all individuals involved in the riotous behavior. Charges are expected to be filed regarding the assault, the property trespass, and the interference with official police duties.
