Sources reveal that from six deceased, four are the employees of a contractor working on renovations and construction at the Kalika Mata Temple in Pavagadh.
About the Incident
The incident took place at around 3:30 pm on Saturday at the Panchmahal district of Gujarat. This happened when the cable wire of a ropeway snapped, causing the cable car to crash to the ground.
“The ropeway accident at Pavagadh took place around 3:30 pm on Saturday. The cabin of the ropeway came crashing to the ground and the six persons, who were on board were hilled…The bodies have been retrieved and sent for post-mortem examination. An accident death case has been lodged at Pavagadh police station.”
After the incident happened, an investigation was launched, police officials have assured that in case any negligence is found, actions will be taken accordingly.
Meanwhile, cranes were deployed to remove the wreckage of the ropeway to allow the fire department to pull out the bodies. Following the crash due to weather conditions, the ropeway for tourists was also suspended later in the afternoon.
Videos that have been going viral on social media capture the scene moments before the tragedy struck at the place. In that snapping of the wire could be seen amid the brutal and foggy weather.
Where Is The Pavgadh Hill Temple?
The Pavgadh hill temple is located at a height of around 800 metres. Pilgrims can either choose to climb some 2000 steps or use the ropeway to reach the summit. However, owing to the rough weather conditions, the ropeway was shut to the public since the morning, according to the officials.
