DIG Bhullar Suspended Following CBI Seizure of Gold, Cash, and Properties

The state home department on October 16, 2025 issued an order that led to Bhullar’s detention under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Following the detention by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the Rs 8 million Bribery case, the Punjab Government suspended DIG (Deputy Inspector General of Police) Harcharan Singh Bhullar.

The state home department on October 16, 2025 issued an order that led to Bhullar’s detention under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Rule 3(2) of the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, which mandates that any officer detained in official custody for more than 48 hours be automatically suspended, was the basis for the suspension ruling.

A scrap dealer from Fatehgarh Sahib filed the complaint, alleging that the IPS officer demanded money in order to clear a 2023 FIR.

The CBI seized 2.50 kg of gold jewelry and Rs 7.50 crore in cash during searches at Bhullar’s residence. Additionally, 26 high-end watches and records related to over 50 real estate holdings in the names of relatives and alleged benami corporations were found.

Sukhpal Singh Khaira’s stance on the arrest of DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar

In a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on Sunday, senior Punjab Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira claimed that the arrest of DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar by the CBI was the largest corruption scandal directly associated with the ruling party and that it had severely damaged the party’s self-proclaimed reputation for “Kattar Imandaar” (hardcore honest) politics.

The astounding seizures of enormous sums of money, gold, and property from Bhullar, according to Khaira, show how completely the Bhagwant Mann-led government and its police force have failed to combat corruption.

He pointed out that the extent and scope of corruption rife in Punjab’s top-heavy police and civil bureaucracy, as well as within AAP’s political circles, are demonstrated by the fact that one person, DIG Bhullar, was able to amass such vast amounts of ill-gotten wealth when the AAP was in power.

“The CBI’s arrest of DIG Bhullar has shattered the AAP’s phony clean governance narrative. The party’s claims to be a symbol of integrity have been totally destroyed by this scandal,” Khaira stated, adding that chief minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal’s silence on the matter amounts to an admission of guilt and collaboration.

Khaira went on to say that the Vigilance Bureau’s abuse under AAP leadership is shown by the fact that it was unable to identify such a large scam prior to the CBI’s intervention.

“Instead of tackling corruption, the Vigilance Bureau has been weaponised to harass and intimidate political opponents of AAP exactly as we, in the Congress, have repeatedly alleged,” he stated.
