Jalbera was reportedly critical of Brahmins when he spoke at a gathering during a recent protest at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

The Ludhiana police have filed a case against farm activist Navdeep Singh Jalbera, who resides in Haryana, for “offending the religious feelings” of Hindus. Jalbera was reportedly critical of Brahmins when he spoke at a gathering during a recent protest at Panjab University, Chandigarh.
The case has been filed under Section 299 (intentional and malevolent actions aimed at offending the religious sentiments of any group by disrespecting its faith and beliefs) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint from Rajeev Sharma, who lives in Ludhiana.
The complainant claimed that the accused made insulting, caste-based comments about Hindu Brahmins during the university rally. He mentioned that the video of the “hate speech” had also gone viral across social media — WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, etc. — which “caused distress” among community members.
“In the video, Jalbera was heard stating that Brahmins should not be permitted to govern here.” “With these statements, he has merely wounded the sentiments of Hindu and Brahmin communities, and he attempted to foster racial and religious discord in society,” the complainant expressed.
“According to Sharma in the FIR, these remarks not only violate the ethics of Panjab University’s educational institutions but also pose a risk to social harmony and communal unity in Punjab.”
