The incident occurred near Lucky Dhaba on the Zirakpur-Patiala Road, when the bus traveling from Chandigarh to Patiala collided with the elderly woman.
A Punjab Roadways bus collided with an elderly woman, resulting in her immediate death on Zirakpur-Patiala on Sunday. The driver fled the scene after the collision.
Police were informed shortly after the incident and then took the woman to the Dera Bassi Civil Hospital.
The police also registered a case with regard to traffic violations against the bus driver.
The incident occurred near Lucky Dhaba on the Zirakpur-Patiala Road, when the bus traveling from Chandigarh to Patiala collided with the elderly woman, who was identified as Mehar Singh. Witnesses said the driver had been driving fast and recklessly. As the elderly woman was just starting to cross the road, the driver drove over her with the bus.
The driver then took the bus out of gear, went forward and backward, and ran over her again, killing her instantly. The accident was so bad her body parts could be seen all over the road.
The bus driver fled from the accident in the bus. The accident created a panic situation in the area and drew the attention of many others creating a large scene in the area. locals said that the woman was stuck under the bus, and the driver did not stop but instead backed up causing even worse injuries to the woman.
The bus has been recovered, taken into police custody, and the man who fled is still being sought by authorities. Officials say they will take their investigation seriously and pursue strict legal action under serious charges.
