Ex-Punjab Police IG, Named in Faridkot Firing Case, Hospitalised After Patiala Incident

A 12-page note has been found at the location where he mentioned financial issues resulting from an online scam.

Amar Singh Chahal, ex-Inspector General Punjab Police, has attempted to commit suicide by shooting himself at Patiala home. Amar Chahal was brought to a Park Hospital after the incident on the weekend due to the life-threatening injuries to his chest and is currently being treated at that facility.

A 12-page note has been found at the location where he mentioned financial issues resulting from an online scam. A probe has been initiated into the issue to determine the precise reason for this drastic measure.

After report of the event, police teams immediately went to the residence of Amar Singh Chahal, along with Patiala police Chief Varun Sharma (SSP).

Amar Singh Chahal was charged as one of the accused in the 2015 Faridkot Shooting Case with involvement of multiple players including many political leaders and senior police officers. 

The Police (SIT) working under Lok Yadav ADGP filed its Report in the Faridkot Court in February of 2023, charging many of these individuals, including Chahal. Based on statements from the police about the current investigation at this time new information about the details of events will continue to emerge as investigations progress regarding the police case.
