Man arrested for posing as Gangster, seeking Rs 50 Lakh extortion from Jeweller in Abohar

A man, age 24, was arrested for making violent & threatening phone calls to a jeweler demanding Rs 50 lakh claiming to be the gangster Arzoo Bishnoi.

A man, age 24, was arrested for making violent and threatening phone calls to a jeweler demanding Rs 50 lakh claiming to be the gangster Arzoo Bishnoi. The suspect was caught hiding in a grain market when he broke his leg escaping police.

SSP Gurmeet Singh said that December 23, Shivam Soni (owner of Shivlal Jewellers) received a threatening phone call from someone claiming to be Arzoo Bishnoi demanding money and saying Soni and his family would be killed in five days if he did not pay the Rs 50 lakh. After receiving the complaint, the police started their investigation.

After tracing the phone call, police arrested Nikesh Kumar from Chuhriwala Dhanna Village on Saturday. Kumar attempted to escape by jumping over a wall but fell, breaking his leg. He has been taken to Civil Hospital.

The investigation revealed that Kumar made the threats through WhatsApp while impersonating Arzoo Bishnoi. Police stated that Kumar is a grocery store owner in his village, holds a B.A. degree, and has no criminal background. Kumar allegedly planned this extortion after seeing similar videos on social media.

The accused have been placed into custody and will spend at least two days in police custody as per the most recent Court Order.

Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh, along with Superintendent of Police Ashwant Singh and Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhwinder Singh Brar asked citizens not to worry about being threatened through phone calls and to immediately report any threatening calls to the police.
