Software Engineer dies after Car falls into Drain in Greater Noida

Just 500 metres from his residence, his car lost control, broke through the wall of a deep drain and plunged into a basement filled with water.

A 27-year-old software engineer died after drowning when his car fell into a drain near Sector 150 in Greater Noida late Friday night. The tragic incident occurred despite prolonged rescue efforts carried out in the presence of police and the victim’s father.

The victim has been identified as Yuvraj Mehta, a resident of Tata Eureka Park Society, Sector 150. He was employed as a software engineer with Dunnhumby India in Gurugram.

According to police, Yuvraj was returning home from his office in Gurugram when dense fog reduced visibility. Just 500 metres from his residence, his car lost control, broke through the wall of a deep drain and plunged into a basement filled with water.

The car reportedly overturned and floated due to the high water level. Yuvraj managed to get out of the vehicle and immediately called his father to inform him about the accident. His father alerted emergency services and rushed to the spot.

Police, fire brigade, SDRF and NDRF teams carried out rescue operations for nearly four and a half hours. Yuvraj was eventually found at a depth of about 30 feet and rushed to hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said poor visibility due to fog and waterlogging in the area appear to be the main causes of the accident. Further investigation is underway.
