Despite a complete ban, the use of Chinese kite string, commonly known as China dor, continues to pose a deadly threat in Punjab, with multiple incidents reported from different districts.

In the most tragic case, a 15-year-old boy, Taranjot Singh, lost his life in Samrala after a sharp China dor slit his neck. Taranjot, a resident of village Rohle, was returning home from school on a motorcycle with his friend Prabhjot Singh when the string got entangled around his neck. He died on the spot, while Prabhjot sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment. Taranjot was the only son of his parents.

Several other incidents were reported the same day. In Machhiwara, a youth suffered a serious finger injury after being cut by China dor. In Tanda Urmur (Hoshiarpur district), Armanpreet Singh, son of Mandeep Singh, was injured while riding his motorcycle from Jaja to the city. He received 25 stitches at the hospital and is reported to be out of danger.

Another incident occurred in Khanna, where Satnam Singh (50), a resident of Jagat Colony, was critically injured on Lalheri Road when a flying China dor struck his neck, causing deep cuts and heavy bleeding. He was rushed to Khanna Civil Hospital by passersby.

The repeated accidents have sparked public anger, with residents and victims’ families demanding strict enforcement of the ban and action against illegal sellers. Locals warned that failure to curb the sale and use of China dor could lead to more tragic losses.
