Authorities report that more than 1,600 licensed immigration agents remain in the district, but the industry is currently facing challenges with two significant issues; tougher international visa regulations and intense market competition.
Records indicate that approximately 249 licenses have been revoked since 2021 due to violations of rules.
Significant decline in students studying Overseas
The most significant effect has been on the amount of students seeking to study abroad, as some industry experts report the study visa market has decreased by almost 80% in the past two years.
They cite policy changes in favored destinations like Canada, which has limited essential work permit options, while the UK has also tightened its visa regulations, making it more challenging for students and families to plan international education.
Experts indicate that the immigration sector in Punjab used to rely significantly on student visas and spousal work permits, but with many of these now restricted or unavailable, the demand has declined dramatically.
