The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested the accused, Omkar Shinde (27), in connection with the incident. Police said Shinde has no prior criminal record.

A 33-year-old man was stabbed to death on a moving Mumbai local train following a minor argument with another passenger, police said on Sunday.
The victim, Alok Kumar Singh, a professor at a private college, was attacked as the train was nearing Malad station, where he was about to get down. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to his injuries.

According to the GRP, the dispute began over getting off the train and turned into a heated argument. During the altercation, the accused allegedly threatened Singh and later attacked him with a sharp weapon. Shinde managed to escape as the train slowed down near the station. CCTV footage later showed him fleeing the area.
Police tracked and arrested Shinde using technical surveillance and confidential inputs. A murder case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Singh, who was originally from Uttar Pradesh, is survived by his wife. The couple had been married for about two years.
While minor disputes are common on Mumbai’s crowded local trains, police described this incident as a serious and tragic escalation of violence.
