SAD Majithia Security Case: Centre files Confidential Report in Punjab & Haryana HC

The Government reportedly submitted a confidential intelligence report to the court. This report claims of the threats which Majithia is facing currently.

A man wearing a blue turban and white shirt is seated at a table, gesturing as he speaks. He has a beard and is positioned in front of a decorated wall.

Following the security concerns surrounding SAD (Shiromani Akali Dal) Leader Bikram Singh Majithia, the case has now reached to a critical point in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

As per the fresh reports, the Central Government has stepped into the case. The Government reportedly submitted a confidential intelligence report to the court. This report claims of the threats which Majithia is facing currently.

Reports indicate that considering the matter and the information sensitive, the authorities handed the report in a sealed envelope so it can be assured that matter remains private.

During the hearing, Satya Pal Jain who is an additional Solicitor General of India represented the court. While presenting the report to the court, he informed the court that the Union Government had already shared this report with the Punjab Government on Feb 27.

According to Jain, the goal of submitting this report to the state government was to give the state government enough time to act on the findings and adjust Majithia’s security as required.

Majithia’s Concerns

This legal battle started because Majithia filed a petition claiming his life is in serious danger. He argues that:

  • His frequent participation in political rallies and public events makes him a “sitting duck.”
  • The current security measures are not enough to protect him from specific risks.
  • He is requesting the court to restore his Z-plus security cover, a request that has been tied up in legal channels since April 2025.

The Court’s Direction

The Punjab and Haryana High Court is taking these claims seriously. In a previous hearing, the judges ordered both the Central and State governments to conduct a fresh assessment of the threats against the Akali leader.

For now, the court has made its stance clear that the Punjab Government must ensure that Majithia stays protected until a final decision is reached.

The Punjab Government told the court it needs more time. State officials argued, they must carefully study the Centre’s report and evaluate the security details before making a move.

Consequently, the court has adjourned the case. The next hearing is set for March 17. By that date, the Punjab Government must clarify its position and explain what steps it will take to keep the leader safe. Throughout these proceedings, advocate DS Sobti has been representing Majithia’s interests in court.
