Ahead of Diwali, Uttar Pradesh state government on Saturday announced that this year, it is a target to light up 28 lakh earthen lamps in Ayodhya. This will illuminate 56 ghats along the Saryu river, and will set a new world record.
Such has been declared as a part of revised target, as earlier, it was asserted that there is the target to light up 26 lakh diyas. Notably, the celebrations for Deepotsav will be on October 19, 2025.
Diwali Preparations in Ayodhya
The government spokesperson has revealed that Diwali preparations in Ayodhya have been scaled up considering the target. Last year, there were 25 lakh diyas which illuminated the Saryu Ghats.
And, this year, with an increased quantity of diyas, the preparations as well are expanded.
Reportedly, for the first time, Laxman Kila Ghat will also be included in the festivities. Officials have declared that 1.25 lakh diyas will light up the ghat. Such an addition is set to make the celebrations ever more exciting and bigger.

- 1.5 Lakh Diyas at Chaudhary Charan Singh Ghats
- 1.5 Lakh Diyas at Bhajan Sandhya Ghat
- 15 to 16 Lakh Diyas Ram Ki Paidi
Political Role in the Celebrations
Significantly, UP State’s Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the Deepotsav by lighting the Diyas.
Ayodhya is one of religious tourism spots, and the administration has ensured the security as part of hospitality of visitors. Further, Prof Sant Sharan Mishra who is Modal Officers has mentioned that 30,000 volunteers will arrange 33 lakh diyas, will require 75000 litres of oil and 55 lakh cotton wicks.
Moreover, Ram Manohar Lohia Awadh University Faizabad has formed 22 committees to oversee the celebration activities.
