Gopi Nijjar, Associate of Sukha Kahlwan Shot Dead in Broad Daylight

According to reports, the victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of his car when the attackers approached the vehicle. The assailants reportedly opened fire through the front window.

In a shocking incident, Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi Nijjar, was shot dead by unidentified assailants near Avon Palace on GT Road in the Dhilwan area of Kapurthala district today.

Nijjar, a resident of village Jairampur, was a key witness in the 2015 murder case of notorious gangster Sukha Kahlwan and the last surviving witness in the case.

According to reports, the victim was sitting in the driver’s seat of his car when the attackers approached the vehicle. The assailants reportedly opened fire through the front window, giving Nijjar no time to react. He sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

A video clip of the incident has surfaced on social media. The incident has triggered panic among commuters and local residents on the busy GT Road.

Police are taking Gopi Nijjar’s death very seriously. He was reportedly the last witness in the Sukha Kahlwan murder case who did not change his statement. Sources said other witnesses had backed out, but Nijjar stayed firm.

Police Investigation

Upon receiving the information, officials from the Dhilwan Police Station rushed to the scene. The body has been shifted to the mortuary at the Civil Hospital, Kapurthala, for a post-mortem examination.

Police are checking footage from cameras installed near Avon Palace and along GT Road to identify the getaway vehicle and the suspects. And, there have been multiple teams deployed to conduct raids at suspected hideouts. Reports as well claim that the victim’s vehicle is being examined for forensic evidence.

Senior police officials said the murder may have been a planned attack by rival gangs or people linked to the Kahlwan case.
